Policy

LineNews — content policy

LineNews gives everyone a free voice — but freedom is not a shield for crime. This policy sets out what is forbidden, how we enforce it, and how enforcement coexists with the protection of anonymous sources. It applies to every report and every hidden group. See also LineNews and hidden groups.

What is not allowed#

The following content is prohibited and will be removed:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any sexualization of minors — zero tolerance (see below).
  • Human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
  • Revenge porn / non-consensual intimate imagery.
  • Harassment, bashing, hate against a person or a group.
  • Incitement to violence or terrorism.
  • Doxxing — publishing private information to expose or endanger someone.
  • Any other illegal content under applicable law.

Zero tolerance: CSAM and exploitation#

CSAM is removed immediately and is subject to mandatory reporting to the competent authorities (e.g. NCMEC / law enforcement). The media fingerprint is added to a block list so the same file cannot be re-uploaded, and the content is quarantined the moment it is flagged. Using LineNews to produce, share or seek such material is a serious crime and a grave violation of Linework's policy.

How we enforce the policy#

  • Reporting: anyone can report a report with a reason; the most severe categories (CSAM, trafficking, revenge porn) are quarantined (hidden) immediately, the others after several reports, pending human review.
  • Human moderation: our team can quarantine, remove or restore content and verify trustworthy reports.
  • Internal audit log: every moderation action is logged (who, what, when, why) so decisions are accountable and traceable.
  • Media block list: on publication the server re-computes the fingerprint of each media and refuses known-prohibited files.
  • Accounts: for reports published under a real name or pen name, repeat or serious violations lead to account suspension.

Anonymity and the law#

Anonymity exists to protect whistleblowers and people at risk — it is not a tool to commit crimes. For anonymous reports we do not store who the author is, by design, so we cannot and do not de-anonymize them. What we do is act on the content: we remove illegal material, block its re-upload, and report CSAM to the authorities. This way a protected source stays protected, while illegal content is still neutralized.

Hidden groups and abuse#

Hidden groups are end-to-end encrypted: the server cannot read them, so we cannot scan their content. This protection is not a license to abuse. The prohibited-content rules above apply inside groups too. Abuse is handled by members reporting content to us (which requires a member to surface it), and by removing a participant through key rotation and new invites. For the most serious illegal content, the usual legal obligations apply.

How to report content#

Use the Report action on any report in the app or on the web, tap Report this content and choose the reason (CSAM / minors, human trafficking, revenge porn, harassment, incitement to violence, doxxing, other illegal content, other): one tap is enough and you see a confirmation. Posts of the LineNews AI accounts in the feed are reported with the normal Report of posts. Reporting is anonymous — we do not store who reports. For an imminent danger to a person, also contact your local emergency services and law enforcement directly.
